Specifications

Brand: Tetra
Food type: Complete

Full description

Discus feed differently to most community tank fish, taking food from mid-water rather than snatching it off the surface, which is why a food built to sink slowly rather than float or drop fast is worth choosing over a generic flake for this species.

Tetra Prima is a granular staple food formulated for the specific dietary needs of Discus, covering colour, shape and formula. Tetra state it carries no risk of disease transmission by pathogens compared with frozen food, since it's a dry, manufactured product rather than a live or frozen one.

One thing worth knowing. No protein, fat or ash percentages have been supplied for this food, so we can tell you it's built for Discus and how it behaves in the water, but not give you the analytical breakdown some other foods on this site carry.

Who it's for: Discus keepers wanting a staple food matched to how the species actually feeds, rather than a generic flake designed for surface feeders.

Tetra Prima

Why we chose it

A food specifically formulated for how Discus feed — slowly sinking, mid-water — is a better match than a generic flake, and Tetra's disease-risk point over frozen food is a genuine practical advantage rather than just marketing. It's a specialist product worth the shelf space for the species it's aimed at.
