A catfish that spends its life on the glass and gravel is not built to compete at the surface for flake food, so a wafer that goes straight to the bottom and stays there is solving a real mismatch between how the fish feeds and how most fish food is designed to be eaten.

Tetra's Pleco Multi Wafers use what they call two-colour technology — two different formulas combined in one wafer — built around concentrated plant ingredients including spirulina, aimed at the algae-eating diet a plecostomus actually needs. The wafers are designed to sink quickly and stay intact once down, rather than breaking up and clouding the water, and the recipe is balanced with extra fibre for easier digestion.
