Pond fish barely digest food properly once the water turns cold, which is why a pond flake worth buying tells you which seasons it's actually for, rather than just being labelled "fish food" and left at that.

This is a high-protein flake formulated specifically for pond fish such as goldfish, koi and orfe, and it's a genuinely different formulation from an aquarium flake even though the two look similar in the jar. Supa recommend feeding it through spring, summer and autumn, and pitch it specifically at small and medium ponds. It comes in a resealable jar to keep the flakes fresh, and it's made in the UK.

• Complete food for goldfish, koi, orfe and similar pond fish
• Recommended feeding months: spring, summer, autumn
• A different formulation from tropical aquarium flake
• Resealable jar
• Suited to small and medium ponds
• 170G pack, made in the UK

On pond size. Supa specifically pitch this at small and medium ponds, with no guidance given for a larger pond or heavier koi stocking — a bigger setup may need a bulkier or pellet-format food instead. There's also no winter feeding advice, which lines up with the general rule that coldwater pond fish barely feed once temperatures drop.

Who it's for: owners of a modest garden pond with goldfish, koi or orfe who want a straightforward flake through the growing months of the year.
