Specifications

Brand: Supa
Food type: Complementary_or_treat

Full description

Daphnia occupies an odd spot in fishkeeping: it's genuinely nutritious rather than being empty treat food, but it's also small enough that it's best thought of as a supplement to a proper diet rather than a replacement for one.

Supa describe this as a natural food for all varieties of coldwater and tropical fish, best fed as part of a supplementary diet or as a treat, and particularly suited to smaller fish and fry. It's sold in a resealable drum, which the manufacturer says helps avoid waste and mess while keeping the feed fresh.

Natural food, not a manufactured pellet
Classed as a complementary treat, not a complete diet
Suitable for all coldwater and tropical fish
Particularly suited to smaller fish and fry
Sold in a resealable drum, large size

What's not on the card. No protein, fat or fibre percentage is supplied — only that daphnia is described as highly nutritious and highly palatable. If you want a numerical analysis to compare against another treat food, this card doesn't carry one.

Who it's for: fishkeepers with smaller fish or fry wanting a natural supplementary treat, rather than a complete replacement for a fish's main diet.

Why we chose it

Being specifically flagged as suited to smaller fish and fry is useful, since a lot of treat foods are sized for adult fish only. A resealable drum matters more than it sounds for a dried treat like this — keeping it fresh is the difference between fish eating it and fish ignoring it.
