Water can look clear while still carrying odours, discolouration and unwanted compounds, which is why chemical media has a separate job in a filter. Supa Activated Filter Carbon is supplied for use within aquarium and pond filters.

The carbon absorbs impurities, odours, heavy metals, discolourations, organic contaminants and pollutants as water passes over it. It comes in a resealable bucket to help keep the media from becoming contaminated, and the supplied directions say to rinse away dust, use a fine mesh bag or trap it between filter wool, and replace it every four weeks.
