The plastic cone is the thing most animals hate about recovering from an operation, and a good part of the misery is not the wound at all — it is not being able to get through a doorway, eat properly or lie down normally for a fortnight.

Suitical's answer is a shirt rather than a collar. The Recovery Suit covers the whole body, so it stops the animal getting at the affected area without stopping them seeing, eating or moving. The design lets air circulate around the wound while keeping it dry, and the inside is light coloured so any discharge shows up early. If a wound leaks, a porous sheet or an incontinence pad can be slid inside the suit or between the double layer on the belly section. For a walk, only the rear of the suit is opened and the underside rolls inwards towards the belly.

How do I pick a size?

By the length of your dog's back, measured from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. The largest of the four sizes covers 61-72CM; the full chart has not been supplied to us.

Can my dog go outside wearing it?

Yes. Suitical say only the rear of the suit needs opening, and the underside then rolls inwards towards the belly.

Will I be able to see if the wound is leaking?

The inside of the suit is light coloured specifically so that fluid discharge shows. A porous sheet or an incontinence pad can also go inside, or between the double layer on the belly.

Is it only for after an operation?

No. Suitical also list wound and bandage protection, skin disease, light incontinence and when an animal is in heat.

Is it better than a plastic collar?

Suitical say it reduces the annoyance and stress compared with an Elizabethan collar and helps keep a patient warm after an operation. We have not tested one against the other, and your vet is the person to ask about your animal.
