- Food type
- These balls provide birds with an excellent high-energy complementary food source.
Full description
Most suet balls lean on fat alone for their energy, so one with dried insects mixed in is offering birds something closer to what they'd actually forage for themselves — a protein source alongside the calories.
These are made from wheat flour, beef tallow, millet seeds, peanuts and dried insects, sold as 150 balls at roughly 85g each in the box. They're a complementary food, meant to sit in a suet ball feeder, a peanut feeder, or scattered on a bird table, and Suet To Go recommend replacing the food if it's been sitting out through prolonged wet weather.
- 150 balls, approximately 85g each
- Composition: wheat flour, beef tallow, millet seeds, peanuts, dried insects
- Complementary food, not a complete diet
- Use in a suet ball feeder, peanut feeder, or scatter on a bird table
- Replace if left out through prolonged wet weather
What the label does not say. Suet To Go describe these as high in protein and high in fat, but no percentage for either is given on our card — the ingredient list confirms the sources, not the actual analysis.
Who it's for: anyone feeding garden birds who wants an insect-inclusive suet ball as a higher-energy option, rather than a plain seed mix.

Why we chose it
Dried insects in the mix is a genuine point of difference from a plain tallow-and-seed suet ball, and it's closer to a garden bird's natural diet than fat alone. A box of 150 also means not running out mid-winter.
