Gravel does more in a tank than sit there looking tidy — it's the surface bacteria colonise to keep the water itself in balance, which is why the grain matters more than the colour.

This is a natural gravel rather than a dyed or coated one, so Pettex note some colour and size variation is normal between bags. It's rated suitable for coldwater, tropical and saltwater set-ups alike, and works as a planting substrate as well as a decorative one. The increased surface area is described as improving anaerobic ability, and it's said to help maintain pH stability in the tank.
