Brand: Pettex
Material: Sustainably sourced pure kiln dried Aspen fibres, heat-treated

Full description

A burrowing reptile needs a substrate soft enough to tunnel through without a fight, which is a different job from a substrate that just looks the part on the floor of a terrarium.

Pettex's Aspen substrate is sustainably sourced, kiln-dried aspen fibre, heat-treated in the same way as the rest of their reptile substrate range. It's soft, odourless and highly absorbent, and it's positioned specifically for burrowing and nesting species rather than as a general-purpose bedding.

10-litre pack
Sustainably sourced, kiln-dried aspen fibre
Heat-treated
Soft, odourless and highly absorbent
Suitable for burrowing or nesting reptiles

One thing worth knowing. Pettex don't specify a change frequency for this substrate, and while it's described as suited to burrowing and nesting species, no guidance is given on which species it doesn't suit — worth checking against what your particular animal needs before committing to a full bag.

Who it's for: keepers of burrowing or nesting reptile species who want a soft, absorbent fibre substrate rather than a coarser chip.

Pettex Reptile Substrate Aspen

Why we chose it

Softness is the whole reason to reach for this over a chip-style substrate — a species that tunnels needs something that gives way, not something it has to push through. Being heat-treated and sustainably sourced is the baseline I'd expect at this price, and it's here.
