Packaging is usually the last thing considered when buying bird food, and it's also the part that outlives the feed itself by months in a bin somewhere, which is why a plastic-free box is worth more than it first appears.

This is a box of 50 suet energy balls, sold as a complementary treat for wild birds in plastic-free packaging. Peckish describe them as attracting a wide range of garden birds, including sparrow, long-tailed tit, chaffinch, song thrush and blue tit, fed from an energy ball feeder.

• 50 suet energy balls per box
• Plastic-free packaging
• Sold as a complementary feed, not a complete diet
• Attracts sparrow, long-tailed tit, chaffinch, song thrush, blue tit and more
• Fed from an energy ball feeder

what the makers haven't told us. As with the tub version of these balls, there's no ingredient breakdown for the suet mix and no fat or protein figure — only that it's an energy-dense suet ball. The difference here is the packaging, not a different recipe as far as the card tells us.

Who it's for: anyone who'd rather buy their energy balls in a plastic-free box than a plastic tub, and is happy to work through a bulk 50-ball supply.
