Omega-3 is one of the figures worth actually checking on a bag rather than assuming every recipe in a range carries the same amount, and this salmon recipe declares a notably higher omega-3 fatty acid content than its chicken sibling in the same Purina ONE range.

Salmon makes up 17% of the recipe, including head, bone and meat, alongside dried poultry protein, wheat (16%), corn and soya meal. As with the chicken version, dried chicory root is added at 2% as a prebiotic, and the food includes a digest ingredient with added heat-treated Lactobacillus Delbrueckii and Fermentum powder at 0.025%.

• Salmon 17% (including head, bone, meat)
• Protein 34.0%, fat content 14.0%, crude ash 7.5%, crude fibre 2.5%
• Omega-3 fatty acids 0.5%, omega-6 fatty acids 2.0%
• Dried chicory root 2%, as a prebiotic
• Energy 387kcal/100g
• 800g or 3kg bag

On the wheat content. As with the chicken version, this is not a grain-free recipe — wheat appears at 16%, plus wheat gluten further down the list — so it's not the recipe to reach for if you're avoiding wheat specifically rather than choosing a fish-based flavour.

Who it's for: owners of an adult cat who prefer a fish-based food, and want the higher omega-3 figure this recipe carries over its chicken sibling.
