26% fat, and it is deliberately complementary
Mr Johnson's label it as a complement to what an animal finds for itself, not a diet — a feeder that is never empty teaches a wild animal to stop foraging, which is not a kindness. There is also a mismatch worth flagging: the description names rowan berries while the composition names rose hips, and the two lists do not agree with each other. No feeding rate and no proportions within the mix are published, so you cannot tell how much of the bag is pine nut and how much is wheat until you open it.
Why we chose it
Most shops answer squirrels with a bag of peanuts, so a proper mix with pine nuts and rose hips in it is a real point of difference. Nine hundred grams is enough to last a season of occasional feeding without going stale. It sits well next to the wild bird food, which is where people are already standing.

Full description
A squirrel will take the peanuts out and leave everything else. That is the honest difficulty with any mix put out for wildlife: whatever is richest goes first, the rest sits until it is wet, and the feeder you thought was working is mostly a peanut dispenser with a garnish.
Mr Johnson's build this one around that. It is 900g of mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, whole wheat, whole oats, peanuts and pine nuts, with rose hips and apple in it and soya oil through the mix. The analysis is 26% crude oils and fats, 13% crude protein, 14% crude fibre and 4% crude ash — a high-fat mix, which is what a wild animal burning calories in cold weather is after. It is a premium complementary food, and Mr Johnson's state it suits red, grey and black squirrels.

Who it's for: anyone already feeding squirrels who wants something better than a scoop of peanuts, and gardeners who would rather draw them to one spot than to the bird feeder.
