Rats sleep in a pile. So do ferrets, and the pile is the point - what they want at the end of the day is less a mattress than a container, something with sides to it that keeps everybody in one warm heap.

This is a plush fluffy lined hammock with a pouch built into it, and the reason it does two jobs is the way you hang it. Vertically, the pouch is a hide, an enclosed space with the animals inside it. Horizontally, it becomes a flat bed with a cover they can get under. It goes up on four straps with metal clips already fitted, so it attaches to cage bars without any extra hardware, and the material is polyester, which Little Friends describe as eco friendly. Little Friends put the capacity at up to 4 rats, or 1-2 ferrets, and name ferrets, rats and chinchillas as the pets it was designed for.

On chewers, and on what the measurements leave out. Fabric in a cage with a determined chewer is a consumable - rats and ferrets will work at the edges, and a hammock with a hole in it stops being a bed and becomes something a leg goes through, so it wants checking rather than leaving. The size given is the flat size excluding straps: there is no drop, no strap length and no washing instruction, so how low it will hang in your particular cage is not a question this page can answer. Chinchillas are listed as suitable, but nothing supplied to us addresses how it holds up to a chinchilla specifically.
