Specifications

Brand: Komodo

Full description

Tortoises kept on the same bowl of pellets for months will often go off their food for no obvious reason, and having more than one flavour in a range is a cheap way to have something else to offer when that happens.

This is a complete holistic diet in banana flavour, made without artificial additives, preservatives, flavours or colours, and formulated with a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 3.5:1. It's high in fibre, and Komodo say it can be fed either dry from the tub or with a little water added to bring out the flavour. This 170g tub is the smallest in a range that also runs to 340g, 680g and 2kg.

What Komodo don't publish. No protein, fat or fibre percentage is given for this diet — just the calcium to phosphorus ratio and the additive-free claim — so there's no full guaranteed analysis to set against a different holistic brand. Go on the ratio and the ingredient promise rather than a label comparison that isn't possible here.

Who it's for: keepers of popular pet tortoise species who want a fibre-forward complete diet and don't mind rotating flavours rather than sticking to one tub.

Komodo Tortoise Food Banana

Why we chose it

A 170g tub is the right size for trying a flavour without committing to the 2kg tub Komodo also do, so it's the size we'd stock first. The additive-free claim and the calcium ratio are the two things that actually matter on a tortoise diet, and both are stated plainly rather than buried in the copy.
