Brushing a dog or cat's teeth daily is the advice everyone gives and almost nobody actually manages, which is exactly the gap a water additive is built to fill — something that happens automatically every time the pet drinks.

This rinse is built around Chlorhexidine Gluconate, an antiseptic Johnson's describe as designed to help reduce dental plaque and oral bacteria. It's added directly to the pet's drinking water rather than applied to the teeth, and Johnson's say used regularly it helps prevent plaque and tartar build-up and promotes fresher breath. It comes as a 250ml bottle.

• 250ml bottle
• Added to drinking water
• Active ingredient: Chlorhexidine Gluconate
• Helps reduce dental plaque and oral bacteria
• Promotes fresher breath with regular use

On what regular means. Johnson's don't state an exact quantity per bowl or how many days it takes to see a difference — only that it works "used regularly" — so this is a long-term habit rather than a quick fix, and existing dental disease, loose teeth or bleeding gums need a vet dental check rather than a change of water additive.

Who it's for: owners who've accepted that daily brushing isn't happening in their house, and want something that works passively through the water bowl instead.
