Full description
The name on the front of a pouch and the list on the back are written by different parts of the same company, and they do not always agree with each other on what the product actually is.
This one is a case in point. It is sold as a Salmon recipe, but the composition lists turkey at 35%, necks, liver, heart and deboned ground turkey, against salmon at only 4%. It is grain free, served in gravy, with protein at 8.5% and moisture at 81.5%.
- Composition: turkey (35%), salmon (4%)
- Protein 8.5%, fat 5.0%, crude ash 2.0%, crude fibre 0.40%, moisture 81.5%
- Grain free, served in gravy
- Sold under the name "Salmon in Gravy"
- 12 pouches, 85g each
On the name. This is marketed as a Salmon recipe, and salmon is genuinely in it, but at 4% it is a minor ingredient next to turkey at 35%. If you are buying it specifically to get a salmon-based diet into your cat, this is not that; it is a turkey pouch with salmon added.
Who it's for: owners looking for a turkey-based wet food who do not mind, or would even prefer, a hint of salmon in the recipe, rather than owners specifically trying to feed a salmon diet.

Why we chose it
Catching a name that oversells one ingredient over another is exactly the kind of thing we think is worth saying plainly rather than letting the pack do the talking. Turkey at 35% is still a genuinely meat-forward pouch, whatever it is called on the front.
