Neutering slows a cat's metabolism, and food that suited them as an entire cat often doesn't suit them a year later, once the weight starts creeping on quietly.

IAMS pitch this Light/Sterilised recipe as 30% lower in fat than their standard adult chicken recipe, aimed at cats that need help controlling weight rather than gaining it. It's built on dried chicken and turkey (35%, 21% named as chicken) with fresh chicken at 9%, and includes L-carnitine, which IAMS say supports fat metabolism. Protein still comes out at 33%, with a fibre blend of prebiotics and beet pulp for digestion.

• 2kg bag, dry food for weight control, suitable for sterilised cats
• Dried chicken and turkey 35% (21% named as chicken); fresh chicken 9%
• Protein 33%, fat 9.8%, crude fibre 2.3%, crude ash 6.9%
• L-carnitine included, to support fat metabolism
• 30% less fat than IAMS' standard adult chicken recipe
• IAMS' own weight-management feeding table, given by target bodyweight

On the label. IAMS market this as containing '84% animal protein', a figure given as a share of total protein rather than of the whole recipe — the composition itself lists dried chicken and turkey at 35% by weight, which is the number worth reading if you're comparing bags.

Who it's for: owners managing a neutered or overweight cat's diet, following IAMS' own feeding table by target bodyweight rather than a single scoop size for every cat.
