Cats evolved to get most of their water from prey rather than a bowl, so a food that already carries plenty of moisture is doing some of the drinking for them before they ever reach the water bowl.

This is Iams' Land & Sea recipe in gravy, an 85g pouch that's complete on its own rather than a topper for dry food. It's built on meat and animal derivatives (42% of the recipe, of which 14% is named as chicken and 12% as turkey), with the rest made up of vegetable derivatives and minerals. Because it's wet food, the analysis panel reads very differently to a dry kibble: protein comes out at 9.2%, fat at 4.8%, crude ash 1.4% and crude fibre 0.4%, against a moisture content of 79.3%. Iams add taurine, plus vitamin D3 and vitamin E, at the point of manufacture.

• 85g pouch, complete food in gravy
• 42% meat and animal derivatives, including 14% chicken and 12% turkey
• Protein 9.2%, fat 4.8%, crude fibre 0.4%, moisture 79.3%
• Taurine, vitamin D3 and vitamin E added at manufacture
• For cats aged 1 year and over
• Iams recommend introducing it gradually, over 4 days, when switching food

What the label doesn't spell out. Composition names 14% chicken and 12% turkey within the wider 42% meat and animal derivatives figure, but doesn't break that remaining meat content down any further. Iams also don't publish a calorie count for this pouch — the only feeding guide supplied is by cat bodyweight, not a kcal figure to weigh portions against.

Who it's for: adult cats (1 year and up) that take to a gravy-based wet meal, and owners happy to follow Iams' own bodyweight feeding guide rather than a printed calorie count.
