Full description

A fish recipe can still draw most of its declared meat content from poultry, so reading beyond the flavour on the front is especially useful here.

IAMS Advanced Nutrition Adult Cat with Fish is complete dry food for cats aged one year and over. Ocean fish is declared at 4%, while dried chicken and turkey make up 40%, including 24% chicken. The rest of the composition includes maize, pork fat, rice, 1.9% dried beet pulp, chicken gravy, 0.7% fructooligosaccharides and fish oil. Its analytical constituents state 35% protein, 14% fat, 1.9% crude fibre and 6.6% crude ash, with omega-6 at 2.7%, omega-3 at 0.25% and taurine at 0.2%.

Treat “fish” as the recipe name, not the whole composition. The declared ocean-fish content is 4%, compared with 40% dried chicken and turkey. The food is described as wheat free, although it is made in a factory that handles wheat. The manufacturer gives rough daily ranges from 30–40g for a 2kg cat to 70–95g for a 7kg cat. Actual requirements may vary, so adjust the amount to maintain ideal body weight, split the day’s portion into at least two meals and keep fresh water available.

Who it's for: adult cats whose owners want a complete fish-named dry food in a smaller bag and value a transparent explanation of its poultry and fish content.
