A Sphynx loses heat the way we would sitting about in a t-shirt in February. There is no coat to hold it in, so a cool room is genuinely uncomfortable rather than merely brisk. A soft hooded top gives that cat back the layer it was bred out of, and most hairless cats work this out immediately and will sit still to have it put on.

The fabric is the part that matters on bare skin. It is soft-faced and stretchy, with nothing scratchy at the seams to rub skin that has no fur protecting it, and the cut is close enough to stay put when the cat leaps rather than rucking up under the front legs. The hood is roomy and sits back off the head, warming the neck without covering the ears or getting in the way of the whiskers.

On heat and on skin. Sphynx skin gets oily and needs to breathe, so a top is for cool rooms and cool evenings rather than something to leave on around the clock, and it wants washing more often than a dog jumper would. Check underneath for rubbing at the armpits over the first few wears. It is also an indoor layer, and not warm enough to make a hairless cat an outdoor cat in a British winter.
