Specifications

Brand: Henry Bell

Full description

Goldfinches and other small-beaked birds will pick through a mixed seed blend for the one seed they actually want, which is the whole case for skipping the blend and offering that seed on its own.

This is a "straight" — a single seed type rather than a mix — sold as nyger seed for wild birds. Henry Bell describe it as rich in oils with a high protein content, and it's suitable for use in a feeder.

Nyger seed, a single-species straight, not a blended mix
Described as rich in oils with a high protein content
Suitable for use in a feeder
1.8KG pack
Aimed at small-beaked birds, goldfinches in particular

what the makers haven't told us. No protein percentage or oil content figure is given, only the description "high" and "rich" — so there's nothing to compare it against numerically. It's also not described as suitable for a bird table or ground feeding, only a feeder.

Who it's for: anyone trying to attract goldfinches specifically, or wanting a single-seed option rather than a mixed blend a bird has to sort through.

Henry Bell Nyger Seed

Why we chose it

Goldfinches are the bird most people are actually trying to attract when they buy this. A straight seed does that job better than a mix they'll pick apart looking for it.
