Bad breath and flatulence are usually treated as two separate problems, even though both often trace back to the same thing happening further down in the gut.

This is made from granulated charcoal, sprinkled directly onto food. Hatchwell describe it as absorbing many times its own weight in stomach gases and toxins, and it's sold as suitable for dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and birds.

On the claims. Hatchwell's claims about combating bad breath and reducing flatulence are the manufacturer's own description rather than a clinical one, and no serving size or frequency is given for any of the five species it's sold to. Persistent bad breath or flatulence can also signal a dental or digestive problem worth a vet's opinion, not only a food additive.

Who it's for: owners wanting a simple, sprinkle-on charcoal supplement across multiple species, rather than a species-specific dental or digestive product.
