Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.
How to measure
- Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
- If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Six designs on one elasticated strap is the useful thing here, because it lets you pick whichever your cat is most likely to put up with rather than taking whatever a listing happens to offer. There is a plain pumpkin, a smiling pumpkin, a curved smiling face, a flat corner cap, a spider and a small human skeleton. All are free size and all fasten in exactly the same way.
Elastic under the chin is the standard fastening for cat headwear and it carries an obvious drawback: it holds firmly, which is precisely what you do not want if your cat panics halfway through. Check you can get a finger between the elastic and the throat before you let go, and be ready to lift the whole thing straight off. The elastic is there to hold the hat, not the cat. Everything here is fabric, with nothing rigid near the eyes.
