Black trousers and a cat are a difficult combination. Fur works its way into the weave of fabric, and a lint roller lifts what sits on the surface while leaving the rest behind, which is why you can roll a jumper twice and still find hair on it at work. This spray goes after the other half of the problem, loosening what is gripped in the fibres so a brush or cloth can take it away.

A light mist relaxes the static and the fibre grip that hold the hair in place, and it deodorises as it goes, so a jumper that came out of the wardrobe smelling faintly of cat comes out smelling of very little. It works on clothing, sofa cushions and bedding alike. The bottle is small enough to live by the front door or on a wardrobe shelf, which matters more than it sounds, because a tool you have to fetch is one you stop using.

• Loosens cat hair gripped in fabric fibres
• Neutralises pet odours as it works
• Suitable for clothing, sofas and bedding
• Spray, then brush or wipe the hair away
• Bottle measures 4 x 4 x 14.8cm and weighs 129g
• Small enough to keep by the door

Two things worth knowing. First, this loosens hair rather than removing it for you, so you still need a brush, cloth or roller to collect what it lifts. Second, test a small hidden patch on anything delicate, dry-clean-only or brightly dyed before you spray a whole garment.

Who it's for: Cat owners who leave the house in dark clothes and want the fur dealt with before they reach the car.
