Full description

Some aquarium gravel is chosen to disappear into the background and some is chosen to be the background, and a colour this deliberate falls firmly into the second category.

Pettex sell this as part of their Roman Gravel range in a Sonic Blue finish, rated for coldwater, tropical and saltwater set-ups alike. It works as a decorative gravel in its own right, and the same increased surface area that helps it function as a planting medium also supports the tank's pH stability.

On the colour. Pettex's own material notes for this range describe it as a natural product with colour and size variation from piece to piece, the same wording used across the whole Roman Gravel line — take that as the manufacturer's own description of the finish rather than something independently verified here.

Who it's for: fishkeepers who want a strong, deliberate colour statement in the tank rather than a natural stone tone.

Aquatic Roman Gravel Sonic Blue

Why we chose it

It's the one colour in this range people buy specifically to be seen, not to blend in, and that's a legitimate reason to stock it alongside the more natural tones. It does the same practical job as the rest of the line underneath the colour.
