An older cat can go off its food for reasons that have nothing to do with taste — sore teeth, a duller sense of smell — which is why senior-specific wet food tends to lean on a stronger, simpler flavour rather than a complicated recipe.

This one is built around tuna fillet at 40% and salmon at 8%, with rice flour and a vegetable gelling agent holding it together. It comes out at protein 12%, crude fat 1%, crude fibre 0.1%, crude ash 1% and moisture 85%, and Applaws class it as a complementary food for cats over 3 months rather than a complete one — despite being aimed at mature and senior cats specifically.

• Tuna fillet 40%, salmon 8%, rice flour, vegetable gelling agent
• Protein 12%, crude fat 1%, moisture 85%
• Crude fibre 0.1%, crude ash 1%
• Suitable for all mature and senior cat breeds, 7 years and over
• Complementary food, not complete

What the label doesn't say: despite the "senior" positioning, this is a complementary food for cats over 3 months, not a complete one — it needs feeding alongside a complete diet rather than replacing it, whatever age the cat is.

Who it's for: owners of an older cat who wants a simple, high-fish topper or occasional meal, fed alongside a complete diet rather than as the whole of it.
