Most coat supplements are asking you to trust a blend; a single-ingredient oil at least tells you exactly what you are giving, and AniForte's is 100% salmon oil with nothing else added to the oil itself. What that oil actually is, chemically, is a concentrated dose of the fatty acids a dry or dull coat is usually short of.

Crude fat is 99.5% of the product, with essentially no protein, fibre or ash — this is oil, not a food. Within that fat, AniForte state 2.34% EPA, 4.74% DHA, 6.73% ALA, 17.14% total omega-3 fatty acid, 16.1% omega-6, 13.85% linoleic acid, 0.21% arachidonic acid and 0.1% GLA, plus 1,000 IU/kg of natural vitamin E as a preservative additive.

What the label does not say. AniForte give no calorie figure and no guidance on how gradually to introduce it, and a rich oil like this can unsettle a dog's stomach if a full dose is given from day one — most owners find it safer to start with less than the full teaspoon and build up. It is also a supplement, not a food, and is not meant to replace anything in the diet.

Who it's for: owners of a dog or cat whose coat, skin or joints could do with the omega-3 boost a plain diet often lacks, who want a single-ingredient oil rather than a flavoured supplement with other things mixed in.
