Science Selective vs Tiny Friends Farm
Science Selective is a single-ingredient pellet range, meaning every piece in the bag has the same nutritional content, which stops a selective eater picking out favourite bits and leaving the rest — a genuine problem with mixed feeds, where an animal can end up eating an unbalanced diet by choosing around it. It's available for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, degus and ferrets, often with junior and life-stage-specific options.
Tiny Friends Farm is a more traditional mixed-ingredient food, with named products like Russel Rabbit and Charlie Chinchilla, and it suits owners who prefer a food with visible variety in the bowl, or animals who show no tendency to pick and choose. Supreme also makes a range of small animal supplements, including vitamin C and digestive care support, sold separately from the main foods.
Choosing the right one for your pet
If your small pet already has a habit of leaving certain pieces in a mixed feed, a single-ingredient food like Science Selective removes that problem entirely, since there's nothing to pick around. If you're happy with how your pet is doing on a mixed food and they're maintaining a healthy weight, there's no need to switch just for the sake of it.
Whichever range you choose, hay should still make up the largest part of a rabbit or guinea pig's diet, with a measured portion of pellets or mix alongside it rather than as the main event.
Switching between foods
Small animals can be just as particular about a change in food as cats and dogs, and switching too quickly can lead to a period of a pet eating less or having loose droppings. Mix the new Supreme food in gradually with whatever your pet is currently eating over a week or two, rather than swapping the bowl over in one go.
If your pet is a fussy or selective eater already, expect a mixed food like Tiny Friends Farm to show that habit up more clearly than a single-ingredient pellet would, since there is simply more to pick between in the bowl.
