The drawer is the part that makes this pleasant to live with. The base pan slides out from the bottom like a filing tray, so emptying does not mean lifting a lid, moving it somewhere, hauling out an inner tray and putting the whole thing back together. Pull, empty, refill, push.

The rest is arranged around keeping smell and litter where they belong. Two replaceable deodoriser bags sit in the housing, working on odour at the source rather than perfuming the room. Cats go in through a flap door and out through the top, and that step up shakes granules off their paws while they are still over the box. Usefully, the door direction can be reversed, so the box can sit in a corner either way round rather than dictating where it goes.

The top exit needs an agile cat. Climbing out suits a fit adult and does not suit a kitten, a senior, or a cat with any stiffness in the hips — and a cat that finds the exit awkward will quietly start going somewhere else. If yours is older or over 5kg, choose a front-entry tray instead.
