Red mite are not really a bird problem; they are a building problem. They spend the day in the joints and crevices of the housing and come out at night to feed, which is why so many keepers treat the chickens over and over and still find the same infestation waiting at dusk. Anything that only goes on the bird is fighting the visible half of the job.

Beaphar's active here is dimethicone, and the mechanism is physical rather than chemical. The silicone works as a sticky trap: parasites are coated and immobilised, so they cannot feed, breed or carry on their lifecycle, which is why Beaphar describe the product as pesticide free. They list it as acting on all life stages of red mite, and on lice, fleas, ticks and other parasites. It is enriched with aloe vera.
