The reason most muzzles are not worn is not comfort, it is other people. A muzzled dog gets read as a dangerous dog, owners feel it, and a lot of dogs who would genuinely benefit from wearing one — dogs who scavenge, dogs who are sore, dogs recovering from something — end up not wearing one at all. A transparent basket is a serious attempt at that problem.

Baskerville make INVISA from thermoplastic rubber, with a clear basket designed to be far less obvious than a solid one. That transparency does a second job too: it lets owners, vets and groomers read a dog's facial expression and the subtle signals that a solid basket hides — which matters when you are trying to judge how a dog is coping. It is engineered using computer optimisation to be lighter and stronger than traditional muzzles, with a 360° padded basket. This is size 6.

A muzzle has to be introduced, and it has to fit. A basket muzzle is only humane if the dog can pant fully, drink, and take a treat through it — panting is how a dog cools, and a muzzle that prevents it is dangerous in warm weather. Baskerville publish sizing guidance and it is worth following properly rather than guessing from the number. Introduce it over days with food, never straight on before a vet visit, and never leave a muzzled dog unattended. A muzzle manages a risk; it does not resolve the reason for it, and a dog who needs one because of aggression needs a behaviourist alongside it.

Who it's for: dogs who scavenge on walks, dogs required to be muzzled, and owners who have avoided muzzling because of how it looks.
