The reason half a bottle of salmon oil ends up at the back of a cupboard is almost never the fish. It is the pouring — the pump that drips, the cap that goes tacky, the smell that transfers to whatever is standing next to it, and the vague guessing about how much actually went into the bowl.

This is the same idea in a capsule. AniForte describe these as a 100% natural, high-quality source of omega-3 along with EPA, DHA and ALA fatty acids, and the tub holds 200 capsules. The practical difference is that a capsule is a unit rather than a squeeze: it goes in with a meal or out of a hand, and nothing is left behind on the worktop.

• 200 capsules per tub
• Salmon oil, described by AniForte as 100% natural
• A source of omega-3 and of EPA, DHA and ALA fatty acids
• Sold for dogs and cats
• Given as a capsule rather than poured over food

What has not been supplied. This is an unusually thin label for a supplement. AniForte have given us no capsule size, no oil content per capsule and no amounts of EPA or DHA — which are precisely the figures that would let you compare it on price with anything else in the aisle. There is no feeding guidance either: nothing on how many a day, and nothing separating a cat from a large dog. Ask your vet what is appropriate for your animal before you start, especially if they are on medication. AniForte's own product description also makes several health claims that nothing supplied to us evidences, and we are not repeating them here.

Who it's for: owners who want an omega-3 supplement without a fish oil bottle in the house, and mixed households where the same tub covers a dog and a cat. Anyone who needs to know exactly how much EPA their dog is getting should look at a label that publishes it, because this one does not.
