An oval bowl fits into a feeding station corner that a round one doesn't, which is a small thing that decides where a bowl actually ends up living.

This oval ceramic dish is a lower, wider shape designed to keep whiskers clear of the sides, made from durable, food-safe ceramic that's dishwasher safe and resists odours and bacteria. It's described as suiting wet or dry food and all breeds, including flat-faced cats.

• Oval, shallow, wide design to keep whiskers clear

On the brand. This dish is sold under Ancol's product name, but the brand recorded against it on our source is Hungry Paws rather than Ancol — worth a mention in case you're specifically trying to match it to other Ancol-branded feeding kit.

Who it's for: cats prone to whisker fatigue, and owners who want an oval shape rather than the rounder ear-dish style, in a bowl that goes straight in the dishwasher.
