Cats can feel their own whiskers brushing the sides of a deep bowl, and enough of them find it unpleasant enough to leave food sitting rather than push their face in to reach it.

This is a shallow, wide ceramic dish shaped like a cat's ear, made from durable, food-safe ceramic that resists odours and bacteria. It's stable and tip-resistant, and Ancol say it suits wet or dry food and any breed, including flat-faced cats.

• Shallow, wide design to keep whiskers clear of the sides
• Ceramic, food-safe, resists odours and bacteria
• Dishwasher safe
• Stable and tip-resistant base

On the size. Ancol haven't given us a diameter, depth or capacity in millilitres for this dish, so if you're comparing it against a bowl you already own, there's nothing here to measure it against directly.

Who it's for: cats prone to whisker fatigue — flat-faced breeds especially — and owners who want one dish they can put straight in the dishwasher rather than hand-washing a plastic bowl that stains.
