Cats drink badly. They evolved to take most of their water from prey, their thirst drive is weak, and a bowl of still water that has stood by the radiator all morning does nothing to tempt them. That matters, because long-term under-drinking sits behind a great deal of feline kidney and urinary trouble, and moving water is the one thing that reliably changes a cat's mind about the whole business.

The reservoir here holds four litres, so a multi-cat household, or one that is out all day, is not topping it up twice before teatime. The basin is stainless steel rather than plastic, and that is not a styling choice: plastic scratches, and those scratches hold the greasy biofilm that turns a fountain sour between cleans. Layered filtration catches hair and food debris before any of it reaches the pump.

• Four-litre stainless steel reservoir
• Ultra-quiet pump with a gentle spout flow
• Layered filtration for hair, debris and food particles
• Tower styles include flower dispenser, Dragon Ball, copper tube and plain steel
• Replacement filter cartridge boxes available as a separate set
• Suits cats and dogs

Check the plug before you order. This is listed with UK, EU, US and AU mains options, and the region sits in the variant name alongside the style, so pick a UK line unless you actively want an adapter. Worth adding that no fountain is maintenance-free: the pump wants rinsing and the filter changing on schedule, or the water ends up no fresher than the bowl it replaced.

Who it's for: Multi-cat homes, and anyone whose cat plainly will not drink enough from a standing bowl.
