Samoyed weight chart

A Samoyed weight chart shows the typical range a Samoyed puppy passes through on the way to an adult weight usually somewhere between 16 and 30kg, with males generally at the heavier end and females lighter. It is a useful reference for spotting a puppy who is growing unusually fast or slow, but it is a guide rather than a target — body condition matters more than hitting a specific number.

How to read a growth chart properly

A typical chart plots expected weight against age in months, usually as a range rather than a single line, reflecting the natural variation between individual dogs even within the same breed. Where your puppy sits within that range at any given point matters less than whether they are following a broadly consistent curve over time — a puppy tracking steadily along the lower end of the range is not necessarily a problem, provided they are healthy and gaining consistently.

What is worth paying attention to is a sudden flattening, drop, or sharp jump away from your puppy's own established curve, since that is a more meaningful signal than comparing your dog to the chart's midpoint at a single point in time.

Why body condition matters more than the number

Two Samoyeds at the same weight can have very different body conditions — one lean and well-muscled, one carrying extra fat — because weight alone does not describe body composition. Feeling for ribs without heavy pressure, and being able to see a waist from above, are better everyday indicators of a healthy weight than the number on a chart alone.

If your Samoyed's weight seems to be tracking well outside the expected range in either direction, or their body condition looks concerning regardless of what a chart says, that is worth a conversation with a vet rather than adjusting food based on the chart number alone.

Common questions

How much should a Samoyed weigh as an adult?
Most adult Samoyeds fall somewhere between around 16 and 30kg, with males typically heavier than females. Individual variation within the breed is normal, so this range is a guide rather than a strict target for every dog.
When do Samoyeds stop growing?
Most Samoyeds reach close to their adult height by around 12 months, though they can continue to fill out in muscle and coat for several months after that. Full physical maturity is often closer to 18 to 24 months.
What if my Samoyed puppy is well outside the expected weight range?
A puppy tracking noticeably above or below the typical curve for more than a couple of weeks is worth mentioning to a vet, who can assess body condition directly rather than relying on the chart's numbers alone. Occasional short-term deviation from a growth chart is common and not automatically a concern on its own.
