Poodle weight chart

Poodles come in three officially recognised sizes — toy, miniature and standard — with genuinely different weight ranges rather than one chart fitting all three. Checking a weight chart against the wrong size category will give you a misleading picture, so the first step with any Poodle weight chart is knowing which size your dog actually is.

Why size category matters more than age here

A toy Poodle's healthy adult weight is a fraction of a standard Poodle's, so a single weight chart covering 'Poodles' generally without separating out the size is close to useless on its own. Always check which size category a chart is referring to before comparing your own dog against it.

Within each size category, growth still follows a broadly similar pattern — a period of rapid growth in the first several months, slowing as a dog approaches its adult size, typically reached somewhere between nine and twelve months for smaller Poodles and up to eighteen months for standards.

Checking your own Poodle against the chart

Whatever size category your Poodle falls into, feeling for ribs under a light covering of fur and coat, and looking for a visible waist from above, tells you more day to day than matching an exact number on a chart, particularly given how much a Poodle's curly coat can disguise their actual shape underneath.

If your dog's weight seems well outside the range for their size category, or has changed suddenly, speak to your vet rather than adjusting their food yourself — they can assess body condition properly, which a chart alone can't do.

Common questions

What is the difference between toy, miniature and standard Poodle weight?
The three sizes have distinctly different adult weight ranges, from a few kilograms for a toy Poodle up to considerably more for a standard. It's worth confirming which size category your dog fits before comparing them against any chart.
At what age is a Poodle fully grown?
This varies by size — smaller toy and miniature Poodles typically reach their adult size faster, often by around nine to twelve months, while standard Poodles can continue growing until closer to eighteen months old.
How can I tell if my Poodle is a healthy weight under all that coat?
Feel along their sides for ribs under a light covering of muscle and fur, rather than relying on how they look with a full coat, since a Poodle's coat can make it harder to judge their shape by eye alone. Ask your vet to check their body condition if you're unsure.
