Goldendoodle weight chart

A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and because Poodles come in toy, miniature and standard sizes, a Goldendoodle's realistic adult weight varies far more than it would for a purebred dog of similar height. A weight chart built for the breed as a whole has to be read as a wide range, not a single expected figure.

Why the range is so wide

A mini Goldendoodle, from a Golden Retriever and a miniature or small Poodle, might settle somewhere between 15 and 25 kilograms, while a standard Goldendoodle, from a Golden Retriever and a standard Poodle, can reach 30 kilograms or more. First-generation crosses can also vary more between individual puppies in the same litter than a purebred litter typically does, since each puppy inherits a different mix of traits from two genetically distinct parent breeds.

Rather than comparing your puppy to a single expected weight for "Goldendoodle" as a category, it is more useful to track their own growth curve over time and discuss it with your vet, particularly if you know which size of Poodle was used in the cross.

Reading a chart against your own dog

Weigh your puppy regularly through their first year and plot it against a general large-breed or medium-breed growth curve depending on which size they are trending towards, rather than a fixed Goldendoodle number. A steady, consistent upward trend that matches their own earlier pattern is more reassuring than hitting any particular figure at a particular age.

A body condition check — feeling for ribs with a light covering of fat, and a visible waist from above — is a more reliable everyday measure of healthy weight than any chart, especially for a cross where individual variation is the rule rather than the exception.

Common questions

How big will my Goldendoodle get?
It depends heavily on which size of Poodle was used in the cross — a mini Goldendoodle might reach 15 to 25 kilograms, while a standard Goldendoodle can exceed 30 kilograms. Ask your breeder which Poodle size was involved for a more realistic estimate.
Why do Goldendoodle littermates sometimes grow to very different sizes?
First-generation crosses inherit a different mix of traits from two genetically distinct parent breeds, so puppies from the same litter can vary more in adult size than a purebred litter typically would. This is normal for the cross rather than a sign of anything wrong.
Is there an official Goldendoodle weight chart?
No, because Goldendoodles are not a standardised breed with an agreed size, unlike a Golden Retriever or a Poodle individually. Any chart you see online is an approximation, and tracking your own puppy's growth curve is more reliable than comparing to a fixed figure.
How often should I weigh a growing Goldendoodle puppy?
Every few weeks through the first year is enough to track a meaningful trend without over-focusing on small fluctuations. Combine this with a body condition check and discuss any concerns about pace of growth with your vet.
