This trade-off is worth thinking through rather than buying on price per bag alone.
Larger bags almost always cost less per kilogram than smaller ones of the same litter, which matters most if you have the storage space and get through litter steadily. For a multi-cat household getting through litter quickly, that saving adds up faster than it does for a single cat using it more slowly, where a smaller bag that stays fresher for longer might make more practical sense.
Matching litter type to your household
A cat who is fussy about texture may reject a cheaper litter entirely, which is a false economy if it means more accidents outside the tray or a cat who avoids the tray altogether. Sticking with a litter your cat reliably uses is worth more than a small saving per bag if switching risks litter tray problems.
Multi-cat households usually get better overall value from a stronger-odour-control clumping litter, even at a higher price per kilogram, simply because the alternative of more frequent full tray changes with a basic litter tends to cost more in both litter and time. A single, less frequently used tray can often manage on a simpler, cheaper litter without the same trade-off.
