Indoor and outdoor tunnels are different tools
A crinkle tunnel, made from a noisy, textured fabric, is aimed squarely at play — the sound and texture is often what draws a cat in and keeps them interested, and it folds flat for storage between uses. It suits a cat who likes an active game as much as a place to curl up.
An outdoor or mesh tunnel is built more for exploring a garden safely, giving a cat some cover while they are outside without disappearing entirely from view. It is a different job to an indoor play tunnel, so think about where the tunnel will actually be used before choosing between them.
Getting a cat to actually use one
Not every cat takes to a tunnel immediately, especially an unfamiliar new item suddenly placed in their space. Leaving it out in a low-traffic spot for a few days, with a toy or a few treats placed just inside the entrance, usually does more to encourage use than trying to coax a cat in directly.
Playing with a wand toy through the tunnel's openings taps into a cat's instinct to chase and pounce from cover, which is often the fastest way to turn a tunnel from an ignored object into a favourite spot. Placing it near a window or a favourite resting area also helps it become part of a cat's normal routine rather than something separate.

- Cats can be cautious of new objects in their space, so give it time rather than expecting immediate interest. Leaving it out for a few days in a quiet spot, with a treat or toy placed just inside, usually helps more than trying to encourage a cat in directly.
