Dog food subscriptions — what to actually check

A dog food subscription is meant to solve one problem: never running out. Before signing up to anything, it is worth checking the price per kilogram against buying the same bag as a one-off, because subscription pricing is not automatically cheaper, and a locked-in delivery you did not need is its own kind of waste.

What a subscription actually saves

The genuine benefit of any repeat-delivery arrangement is not having to remember to reorder before a bag runs out, which matters most for dogs on a specific recipe that is not always in stock locally. That convenience is real, and it is worth something.

What it does not automatically deliver is a lower price. Some subscription pricing includes a discount for committing to repeat orders; plenty simply charges the same price on a schedule. The only way to know which you are looking at is to check the price per kilogram against the same bag bought once, not the headline figure on the subscribe button.

Reading past the headline price

Compare like for like: the same bag size, the same recipe, over the same rough time period. A subscription that looks like a discount on a smaller bag can work out more expensive per kilogram than a larger bag bought outright, simply because bigger packs are usually cheaper per kilo regardless of how they are delivered.

Check what happens if your dog's needs change — a different recipe, a different size dog, or simply needing to pause a delivery. A good arrangement lets you adjust or skip without penalty; one that does not is worth being cautious about however good the headline price looks.

Buying well without locking in

For most dogs on a stable diet, buying the largest bag size that will stay fresh before it is finished and reordering it as a one-off is a straightforward way to manage the cost without committing to a schedule. Matt buys and packs the stock himself, so what is listed reflects what we genuinely have in rather than a subscription-only range.

If you would rather flag interest in repeat deliveries as they become available on a particular food, that option exists on the product page itself — it does not commit you to anything or change the price you pay today, it simply lets us know which foods are worth building a proper repeat-delivery option around.

Common questions

Is a dog food subscription always cheaper?
No. Some subscription pricing includes a genuine discount, and some simply charges the standard price on a recurring schedule. Compare the price per kilogram against buying the same bag as a one-off before assuming a subscription saves money.
What size bag should I buy for a large dog?
The largest size that will be finished well within its use-by date once opened, which is usually the better value per kilogram. Buying a bag too large to get through in time wastes the saving, however good the headline price looked.
Can I change my dog's food if I am on a subscription?
That depends entirely on the terms of the specific arrangement, so check before committing whether you can change recipe, pause, or cancel without penalty. A flexible arrangement is worth more than a slightly lower headline price on one that locks you in.
Does Giddy Pets offer a dog food subscription?
Not as a live, discounted repeat-billing service today. You can register interest in repeat deliveries for a specific food from its product page, which helps us work out which lines are worth building a proper subscription around.
