Is Frontline any good?

Frontline is one of the longest-established flea and tick brands sold in the UK, and it remains a widely used option for both cats and dogs. Whether it is "good" for your pet depends less on the brand name than on picking the right product in the range for your animal's size and the parasites you are actually trying to cover.

What the range covers

Frontline's core products are spot-on treatments applied to the skin, sold in different pipette sizes for cats, small dogs and larger dogs. The range also includes a separate wormer, so a flea spot-on and a worming treatment are typically two different products rather than one all-in-one.

Because dosing is based on your pet's weight, using a pipette sized for the wrong weight band is the most common way a treatment underperforms — not a fault in the product itself. Always check your pet's current weight against the pack before choosing which size to buy, particularly for a growing puppy or kitten whose weight can move up a band between doses.

What we stock, and who it suits

We carry Frontline's cat and dog spot-on ranges across the standard pipette sizes, along with the separate Frontline wormer for dogs and cats. It suits owners who want a well-known, widely available option rather than a newer plant-based or collar-based alternative.

As with any parasite treatment, how well it works in practice depends on applying it correctly, on the correct schedule, and checking your pet's current weight each time rather than assuming it has stayed the same as last time you bought it. Applying it to dry skin, parting the coat properly at the point of application, and avoiding a bath for a day or two either side of dosing all affect how well a spot-on treatment actually performs.

Common questions

Is Frontline effective against fleas and ticks?
Frontline is a widely used, well-established spot-on treatment aimed at both fleas and ticks. Effectiveness in practice depends on choosing the right size for your pet's weight and applying it correctly and on schedule — the product itself is one of the more established names in the UK market.
Can I use dog Frontline on a cat, or vice versa?
No. Products formulated for dogs and cats are not interchangeable, and using the wrong one can be genuinely dangerous, particularly a dog product on a cat. Always use the version and pipette size specifically made and weight-rated for your pet's species.
How often does Frontline need to be applied?
This depends on the specific product and what you are treating for, and the packaging states the schedule clearly. Sticking to that schedule matters more than the brand itself — a treatment applied late or inconsistently gives fleas and ticks a window to establish themselves again.
Does Frontline treat worms as well as fleas?
No, the spot-on flea and tick range does not cover worms. Frontline sells a separate wormer for that, and most vets and pet shops treat fleas, ticks and worms as three separate parts of a parasite routine rather than one combined product.
