Buying a soft toy for a dog who destroys soft toys is normally a way of spending the same money twice. Tuffy exist because of that, and the rocket ship is built the way the rest of their range is, as a piece of kit rather than a cuddly. The shape is tall and narrow, easy for a dog to grab around the middle and carry about, and light enough to throw indoors without taking a lamp with it.

The construction is what you are actually paying for. Several layers of material are bonded together, there are multiple rows of stitching where an ordinary plush has a single seam, and webbing is sewn over every seam so the pulling load lands on the webbing instead of the thread. At 23.1cm tall and 5.6cm deep it is a comfortable one-dog carrying size. It floats, and it goes through the machine and air dries when it comes back muddy.

• Multiple bonded layers of material
• Several rows of stitching per seam
• Protective webbing over the seams
• Measures 17 x 5.6 x 23.1cm
• Floats in water
• Machine washable, air dry
• Made in China

Two things worth knowing. And tough is not indestructible, so check the seams every so often and retire it once the webbing starts to lift.

Who it's for: Dogs who work through an ordinary plush toy in an afternoon, and households who would rather buy one toy than six.
