Junior is the useful word in this one's name. Tuffy's Junior range is made to the same specification as their larger toys but scaled down, and that matters because a toy that is too big is a toy a small dog cannot pick up. A dog who cannot carry a toy loses interest in it within a day, however well it is built, and it ends up under the sofa with the tennis balls.

Underneath the monkey shape is the construction Tuffy are known for. Several layers of material are bonded together, there are multiple rows of stitching where an ordinary plush toy has a single seam, and webbing is sewn over the seams so the load falls somewhere other than the thread. At 22.9cm tall and 7.6cm deep it is a carrying size for a smaller dog. It floats, and it machine washes and air dries.

• Junior size, scaled for smaller dogs
• Multiple bonded layers with several rows of stitching
• Protective webbing over the seams
• Measures 7.6 x 20.3 x 22.9cm
• Floats in water
• Machine washable, air dry

Two things worth knowing. And Junior means smaller, not softer: a large powerful dog will get through this faster than they would the full-size version, so size up for them.

Who it's for: Small and medium dogs who play rough with plush toys and cannot manage a full-size one.
