No soft toy is indestructible, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What Tuffy do is make a plush that survives ordinary enthusiastic play rather than lasting one afternoon: several bonded layers of material instead of a single skin, multiple rows of stitching where a normal toy has one, and webbing run along the seams, because seams are where soft toys always fail first. It is a genuinely different piece of construction, and you can feel it in the hand before the dog ever gets hold of it.

The Junior size makes it a sensible toy for smaller dogs and for the sort of gentle indoor tug that a big plush is too unwieldy for. It floats, which turns it into a river and lake toy rather than only a sofa one, and it is machine washable and then air dried, so a session in a muddy pond does not end its life. At 317.51 grams it has some weight for a dog to carry around, and it measures 40.6cm long by 20.3cm by 7.6cm.

• Multiple bonded layers with several rows of stitching
• Webbing reinforcement along the seams
• Floats, so it works in water
• Machine washable, air dry
• 40.6 x 20.3 x 7.6cm

• Made in China

Two honest points. Tough is not indestructible. A committed destroyer will get through this eventually, and once the outer layer opens the toy should go in the bin rather than back in the box. Who it's for: Small and medium dogs who are hard on plush toys, and anyone whose dog swims.
