Lamb is the recipe people reach for when chicken has stopped agreeing with a dog, and this is the straightforward version of it: half lamb, brown rice rather than wheat, and nothing in the bag pretending to be something else. Like the rest of the range it is sold as a working dog food.

The 50% lamb breaks down as Lamb (23%), Dried Lamb (20%), Lamb Fat (5%) and Lamb Gravy (2%), with Brown Rice at 21% behind it. The panel reads Crude Protein 21.5%, Crude Fat 13%, Crude Fibre 4.5%, Crude Ash 9%, Calcium 2.3%. That ash and calcium figure is the highest in the range, which is what a lamb recipe with this much dried meat in it tends to look like. Is this a complete food?

Yes. The brand describes it as a naturally preserved, hypoallergenic, wheat gluten free natural complete dogfood for all breeds of working dogs.

How much do I feed?

The bag gives grams per day by the dog's bodyweight: 35 to 115g for a 1 to 5kg dog, 115 to 190g at 5 to 10kg, 190 to 320g at 10 to 20kg, 320 to 435g at 20 to 30kg, 435 to 540g at 30 to 40kg, and 540g and up over 40kg. The brand prints its own caveat alongside it and it is worth taking seriously: breed, exercise level, neutered status and even how warm the house is all move the number, so start there and adjust to the dog in front of you.

Why is it VAT free?

Because it is sold as food for working and sporting dogs, which is zero rated. The bag says so on the front. It changes the price, not the recipe.

Is lamb genuinely better for an itchy dog?

Not inherently. What helps some dogs is a single named meat source and no wheat, both of which this has, so you can actually tell what your dog is reacting to. If you have been given a specific exclusion diet by a vet, check the full composition above against it.

Can I switch between the flavours in this range?

Between the rice recipes, yes, and gradually over a few days. Bear in mind the beef and the fish in this range are grain free rather than brown rice based, so those two are a bigger change than swapping lamb for chicken.
