This is the plain one in the range, and it is the one most people end up on. Half the recipe is chicken and the carbohydrate is brown rice, barley and oats rather than wheat, which is the combination the brand itself points sensitive stomachs towards. It is a working dog food, sold and labelled as such.

The 50% chicken is not one ingredient but four: Chicken (20.6%), Dried Chicken (22.6%), Chicken Fat (4%) and Chicken Liver (2.4%). Brown Rice at 21% is the single largest non-meat ingredient. The panel reads Crude Protein 24%, Crude Fat 15%, Crude Fibre 3.5%, Crude Ash 7.5%. Is this a complete food?

Yes. The brand describes it as a natural complete dogfood for all breeds of working dogs, so it needs nothing added to it.

How much do I feed?

The bag gives grams per day by the dog's bodyweight: 30 to 110g for a 1 to 5kg dog, 110 to 185g at 5 to 10kg, 185 to 300g at 10 to 20kg, 300 to 415g at 20 to 30kg, 415 to 515g at 30 to 40kg, and 515g and up over 40kg. The brand prints its own caveat alongside it and it is worth taking seriously: breed, exercise level, neutered status and even how warm the house is all move the number, so start there and adjust to the dog in front of you.

Does 50% chicken mean half the bag is chicken breast?

No. It is four chicken fractions added together: Chicken (20.6%), Dried Chicken (22.6%), Chicken Fat (4%) and Chicken Liver (2.4%). That is normal labelling for this kind of food, and it is worth knowing when you compare one bag's headline number against another's.

Can I feed it to a dog that does not work?
