Clumping Cat Litter
Clumping litter turns urine into a scoopable lump, so the clean litter stays in the tray. The useful differences are how firmly it clumps, how much dust it makes and how far it tracks.

Which clumping litter suits your home?
| Priority | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Firm, easy scooping | Fast-clumping mineral litter | It forms a tight lump that is less likely to break apart in the tray. |
| Lower weight and plant material | Pea, corn or wood-based clumping litter | Plant fibres are lighter and can be biodegradable, subject to local disposal rules. |
| Sensitive cat or owner | Unscented, low-dust litter | Less airborne dust and no added perfume around a very scent-sensitive animal. |
Clump strength decides how clean the tray stays
A weak clump breaks during scooping and leaves damp fragments behind. A fast, firm clump lifts out whole, which keeps the remaining litter usable for longer and makes daily cleaning quicker.
Fill to the depth on the pack and top up after scooping. Too shallow a layer lets urine reach the tray base before the litter can surround it.
Change litter gradually
Cats notice texture and scent changes immediately. Mix the new litter into the old over several days rather than replacing it in one go, and avoid heavily perfumed products if the cat has rejected trays before.
Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.
Common questions
Is clumping litter better?
It is easier to spot-clean and often makes a bag last longer. The best choice still depends on dust, tracking and whether your cat accepts the texture.
Can kittens use clumping litter?
Follow the manufacturer’s age guidance. Very young kittens may taste litter, so many owners begin with a non-clumping product and switch later.
How often should I scoop clumping litter?
At least daily, and more often in a multi-cat home. Top the tray back up so it stays at the recommended depth.
