What a Lickimat actually does
A Lickimat is a textured rubber mat or bowl designed to hold a thin layer of something sticky — pate, yoghurt, mashed food, peanut butter — across raised ridges and suction cups so your dog or cat has to lick it off rather than gulp it down. That slows a fast eater considerably, and the repetitive licking motion is also genuinely calming for a lot of anxious animals, which is why you'll see them used at the vet, at the groomer, or just to take the edge off a stressful car journey.
The range covers flat mats for a quick smear, deeper bowl-style ones like the Wobble and Buddy for wetter food, and freezer-safe designs that turn a five-minute snack into a twenty-minute one once frozen. Most are dishwasher-safe and hold up to daily use rather than being a novelty that gets binned after a week.
Choosing between the shapes
For a dog who bolts their dinner, a flat mat like the Soother or Splash spread with a thin layer of wet food or plain yoghurt is the simplest starting point — lay it flat, no assembly needed. For something that lasts longer, the Buddy and Wobble hold more food in a raised well and can be frozen solid beforehand, which is worth doing before a long car trip or a session left alone at home.
For cats, the range runs smaller and shallower — the Playdate and the cat-specific slow feeders use finer ridges suited to a cat's lick rather than a dog's tongue, and a thinner smear goes further than it would with a dog-sized mat. Whichever shape you pick, start with something your pet already likes the taste of; the mat only works if they're motivated to lick it clean.

- No, we don't currently run one for Lickimat, and we haven't in the past either. The range is priced at the shelf price shown on each product page, and we'd rather say so plainly than have you hunt for a code that isn't there.
- Are Lickimats dishwasher safe?
- Most of the range is top-rack dishwasher safe, but food residue dries hard in the ridges if left too long, so it's worth a rinse under a hot tap straight after use even if you're planning to run it through the dishwasher later.
- Can I freeze a Lickimat?
- Yes, most of the mats and bowls are freezer-safe, and freezing a filled one is the easiest way to make it last much longer — useful before you leave the house or on a warm day when a cold treat is also welcome.
- Is a Lickimat suitable for puppies and kittens?
- Generally yes, though pick a smaller, shallower design for a small mouth and supervise the first few uses to make sure they're licking rather than chewing chunks off the mat itself.
