Duck is the one people reach for when a cat has gone off everything else, or when chicken and fish have both been tried and rejected. It is the same smooth, strong smelling paste as the rest of the range, built to be squeezed onto a lick mat, into a bowl, or over the top of a meal that is being ignored.

Duck meat leads the composition, followed by chicken liver, pea protein and tapioca starch for texture, fish oil at 0.5% and guar gum. Taurine is added at 1000mg per kg. The analysis is crude protein 8%, crude fat 2%, crude fibre 1%, crude ash 0.5% and moisture 88%. The 75g pouch reseals between uses.

This is not a chicken free treat. As a novel protein for an elimination diet it does not qualify. As a change of flavour for a cat who is simply bored, it is a good one.

Is this suitable for a cat who cannot have chicken?

No. Chicken liver is the second ingredient. The name refers to the first ingredient only, which is duck meat.

Is this a meal or a treat?

A treat. The maker's guidance is to feed it by hand, in a bowl, as a mealtime topper, or rubbed into a lick mat, with fresh drinking water always available.

How does it differ from the chicken and the salmon?

Only the first ingredient. The rest of the composition, the taurine level and the whole analysis are identical across the range.

Is 8% protein low?

It reads low because the paste is 88% water. A wet paste cannot be compared with a dry treat on the label figure. The high moisture is the useful part for a cat who does not drink enough.

What is the guar gum for?

It holds the paste together so it stays smooth and spreadable rather than separating in the pouch. It is a plant thickener, not a flavour or a preservative.
